When most women struggle to get pregnant, the first place they look is their hormones. Bloodwork. Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPKs). Charting apps. Timed intercourse. But after helping many women in my practice with their cycles, pelvic floor, and fertility, I can tell you this:

Sometimes the issue isn’t hormonal at all — it’s physical. And sometimes it's both!

The pelvic floor and surround organs (viscera) play a direct role in fertility, and yet almost no one checking fertility ever evaluates it.

Here’s what matters:

1. Pelvic Floor and Core Muscle Tension Can Reduce Blood Flow to the Uterus & Ovaries

Healthy blood flow = healthy ovulation and implantation. If your pelvic floor is hypertonic, clenched, guarding, or stressed, circulation decreases.

2. Cervical Position & Mobility Impact Conception

The cervix must be in a good position to allow sperm to reach the egg.

If pelvic tension or visceral restrictions limit this mobility, conception becomes harder.

3. Tension Affects Cervical Mucus Quality

It's important to have fertile cervical mucus to increase chances at sperm survival.

Chronic pelvic tension can lead to reduced fertile mucus due to increased stress in the system.

4. Pelvic Pain, Tailbone Dysfunction, or Scar Tissue Can Block Sperm Transport

Yep, even these things can impact your fertility.

It’s not your fault. It’s not something labs can show. And it’s definitely not something Google or your OB/GYN is checking.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy with a Pelvic Rehab Fertility Specalist (like me!) can help!

We can assess for things like..

  • Tension patterns
  • Mobility restrictions
  • Circulation issues
  • Pelvic alignment issues
  • Visceral restrictions

If you're struggling to conceive or have cycle symptoms that don’t make sense, this might be the missing piece!
